In honor of Women’s History Month 2018, emotion is kicking off our “Women on Set” series of shorts.

While women are fairly well represented on sets as make-up artists, script-supervisors, and editors, and while these jobs aren’t easy — they take immense creative and technical skill — women are just as capable of being dolly grips, gaffers, directors, sound engineers, and more.

The industry is changing. We are seeing more equality in the number of women and men on film sets. Strides are being made regarding unequal pay, and inappropriate behavior on sets directed at women. We still have a long way to go.

We believe it’s essential to shine a light on the women breaking the mold in film. The directors and sound engineers that have been female pioneers in their field. The cinematographers and gaffers who pursued their passion with full force despite having few or no role models. The dolly grips and first assistant directors who didn’t sell themselves short when the industry was trying to do just that.

Conversations about women in film have been elevated recently. It’s an important subject to us here at emotion and we want to join the conversation. Our “Women on Set” series highlights veterans and rookies of the industry. Cinematographers, first assistant directors, camera ops, and others talk about why they love their craft, and how they feel about the industry as women in their respective fields.
